Places To Stay: Kediyoor Hotels, Udupi

Kediyoor Hotels is a landmark in Udupi. Everyone knows where the bus stand is and who doesn’t know that will surely know where Kediyoor Hotel is. My journey from Mumbai to Kundapura to Shimoga later took me to Udupi and I decided to stay at Kediyoor Hotel for two days before I go back home to Mumbai. Kediyoor hotels have 38 rooms out of which 3 are executive suites and 35 deluxe rooms. The hotel also has banqueting facilities as well as a Business Centre, Board Rooms and Conference rooms for corporate meetings and seminars. If you are traveling in your vehicle then there is ample car parking for you.

How are the room at Kediyoor Hotels?

The rooms are good at Kediyoor Hotels. I had a double deluxe non ac room which has twin sharing beds. I paid Rs. 1350 for one night stay which is very cheap considering this is a room for two. The rooms were neat and clean. There was television for those who would like to spend some idle time watching it. Housekeeping would come every day to change the sheets, towels and clean the room. Kediyoor hotels also provides laundry facility wherein they collect clothes in the morning and brings it back by evening. The toilet and washroom were also clean and functional. There I shot water 24 hours. Udupi city is not very pleasant weather wise, so if you are visiting during summers it is advisable to book an ac room, otherwise it is fine. They have a table to have tea/coffee and even to work comfortably.

My biggest need while travelling was wi-fi so I can catch up on office work. Kediyoor Hotels provide free wi-fi facility; however, it was not very effective. There were times when I had to shift to my mobile internet which thankfully was working just fine. They initially allotted me a room which was away from the wi-fi router so the internet connection was hardly there. However, when I later told them about my problem, they shifted me to a room which was closer to the router. This helped in solving my problem. I was fortunate enough to find an empty room closer to the router, had it all been booked then I would have to comprise on that.

Food at Kediyoor Hotels

Food at Kediyoor Hotels is excellent. You have a veg restaurant and a non-veg restaurant. I visited both on separate days. Kediyoor Gazebo is the non-vegetarian restaurant. Kediyoor Gazebo is a perfect place if you come with your family and would like to have a nice seafood meal peacefully. Their Sea Food Thali is recommended. Over the years the place has built a name and that results in a slightly expensive price tag on the food but nothing which you will regret eating once. The service is excellent and so is the ambiance. The vegetarian restaurant is Gokula Krishna. It was teeming with people. I did not go there for a meal but to have some fresh juice before I leave the city. The number of people visiting surely meant that the place is worth considering over. The hotel also has Thanco’s Ice Cream and Kediyoor Confectionary for your sweet tooth.

Service at Kediyoor Hotels

The service at Kediyoor Hotels is not that great. The front desk staff were not very interested in their guests. The staff at the reception understands English and Hindi along with the local language. I found the manager to be a little rude especially to someone who is travelling. Instead of making me feel welcome in their city and helping me out to understand the city better. He would say that I don’t know for most answers, for those he answered he would answer only to the point and would not tell some important which I would miss asking. I think I know more about Udupi from a traveller’s perspective. Apart from him the others were better and more helpful. However, it is him that you have to interact for most parts which doesn’t give you a very good feeling. Maybe he can be warmer and more welcoming to the guests.

How to reach Kediyoor Hotels

You have to reach Udupi which is accessible by bus or train. The nearest airport is Mangalore airport which is 50 km away, from there you can take a bus and reach in an hour or two. If you are coming by bus, you can get down at the bus stand and walk for 5 mins from there. If you are coming by train you can take a rickshaw directly from the station, he would charge you Rs. 60.

Final verdict of Kediyoor Hotels

Kediyoor Hotels is a decent place to stay. The rooms are neat, clean and functional. I paid Rs. 1350 for one night stay for twin sharing beds which is high value for money. The food you get there is very good. The service of some staff is below par. I would recommend going for Kediyoor Hotels if you are looking for a budget stay. Otherwise, I would explore other options too.
